In this publication, we will talk about all the necessary things you need to know about 5G network in Ghana, MTN 5G and Vodafone 5G.We will also look at the difference between 5G and 4G.
What is 5G
5G is the fifth generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone operators began building globally in 2019. 5G is the expected successor to the 4G networks that connect most existing cellphones.
According to the GSM Association, 5G networks would have more than 1.7 billion members worldwide by 2025. 5G networks, like their predecessors, are cellular networks with service areas divided into small geographic areas called cells.
Radio waves connect all 5G wireless devices in a cell to the Internet and telephone network via a local antenna in the cell.
What is the difference between 5G and 4G
The fifth generation of cellular network technology is known as 5G. Up to a million devices per square kilometer can be supported by 5G, whereas 4G can only support 100,000 devices per square kilometer. Even though discussions about it have begun in several nations, it has sparked a lot of controversies.
Is 5G network in Ghana?
5G network in Ghana is the next generation of mobile technology which has not yet been deployed . However, it promises significantly higher internet data speeds which will enable innovative products and services in agriculture, transportation, education, health, security and commerce.
Organizations like the Institute for ICT professionals in Ghana have issued statements allaying the fears of Ghanaians about the 5G.
The CEO of Ghana’s telecoms chamber, Ken Ashigbe, has stated that the introduction of 5G will take some time. “In Ghana, it will take a little bit to get 5G,” he says. Before we can transition to 5G, we’ll need to get 4G up to roughly 80%. As of now, just roughly 6% of Ghana’s population has access to 4G. Because 5G necessitates so much, it may take a little longer.”
Vodafone 5G and MTN 5G in Ghana
Vodafone has unveiled a new venture in which it plans to beam 4G and 5G internet connectivity straight to mobile phones in Ghana and 48 other tropical nations starting in 2023, in collaboration with AST Spacemobile.
The new platform, which will employ 20 satellites will effectively turn standard smartphones connected to Vodafone’s network, that are capable of leveraging standard 4G and 5G technology, into satellite phones wherever they are being used from all around Ghana.
When fully operational, the new initiative will provide Vodafone a significant competitive advantage against MTN Ghana in the 4G market share race.
The two networks are now the only two of Ghana’s four GSM networks that are licensed to provide 4G services
