2022/2023 Admissions requirement for Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory at the University of Ghana, Legon (UG) ;
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory is a four-year professional programme. The second-year courses cover broad areas of Medical Laboratory Science.
Medical laboratory scientists are trained to work in clinical chemistry, haematology, immunohematology, immunology and microbiology, with various sub-specialities in each of these major areas.
There are Clinical laboratory training periods during the long vacations between semesters four and five, and six and seven.
The Department undertakes these specialities; Chemical Pathology, Cytotechnology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Histotechnology and Microbiology.
Each student selects one speciality to specialize in during the final year and undertakes a research project in that area of specialization.
The program of study is designed to provide the knowledge and technical skills necessary to qualify an individual for work in a diagnostic clinical laboratory, research, or industry.
Minimum/General Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory:
GHANA WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants
Core: Credit passes in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science & Social Studies
Electives: Credit passes in Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Elective Mathematics
WASSCE/SSSCE RESULTS FROM THE WEST AFRICAN SUB-REGION
Core: Credit passes in English, Core Mathematics and a Science subject
Electives: Credit passes in Three (3) Electives comprising Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Further Mathematics
American High School Grade 12
For International Applicants and Ghanaians with Foreign Background)
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University of Ghana must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0
GCE (Cambridge) – ‘A’ Levels
Applicants must have three relevant subjects at the Cambridge ‘A’ Levels.
In addition, they must have at least five (5) passes including English and Mathematics at the Cambridge ‘O’ Level.
Three (3) ‘A’ Level subjects comprising Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Mathematics
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The University of Ghana welcomes applications from students who follow the IB Diploma Programme and meet the following College requirements. Admissions will be to Level 100.
Applicants must have at least Grade 5 in Chemistry, and either Biology or Physics at the Higher Level.
In addition, applicants must have at least grade 4 in English Language/Literature (SL) and Mathematics SL and at least grade C for the third science at the IGCSE or equivalent.
