Knust: Postgraduate Thesis Defence Extended to November

Until May 12th, 2020, students of KNUST had been anxiously waiting for directives from the University’s academic board on how it planned to manoeuvre its way through the seemingly unending pitfalls the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.

According to the communique issued on May 12th, 2020, final year students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are to carry on with their project works but per the resources available to them. Those who had already gathered sufficient data for their project are to proceed to the write-ups and present them for assessment. Those who could not also gather any data have been given the option of presenting a long essay instead of the project work required.

For postgraduate students of the university, those who have completed their thesis are advised to submit their work for assessment whiles those who are yet to complete have also been directed to submit their thesis chapter by chapter. The theses per the communique are to be forwarded to the School of Postgraduate Studies and finally to External Assessors for final assessment.

Also for masters’ theses (i.e. MSc/ MA/MFA/ M.Arch/ MBA /LLN), there will be no oral examinations but rather an average score of the first and second internal examiners will be used. MPhil and Ph.D. students will, however, have their oral examinations facilitated with Zoom Technologies. In lieu of these changes, the thesis defence has been extended to November 2020. All these directives are subject to change with changes in national strategies over the forthcoming weeks.
