KNUST: Two times Michael ABUAH’s advocacy for Students debtors of school fees to Register Courses and write Exams have yielded results.

SRC Presidential Aspirant Master Michael Abuah in an open letter, petitioned the SRC President, Master Samuel Sesah of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology intervening for students owing fees to be allowed to register their courses and partake in the midsemester exams.

This was after the University’s management issued a communique addressing that students owing fees won’t be allowed to register courses and even partake in the exams as well as such students may have to defer and were given up to 23rd June 2021 Ultimatum to make payment.

This is the second time in the academic year the fast-rising SRC presidential candidate has thought of and intervened for students failing to pay their fees. The first was in the first semester through the able Parliament House of KNUST and yielded it massive positive results.

Meanwhile this around,  Michael Abuah’s letter to the SRC on 23rd June, he stressed that the pandemic destabilized and played a big part in the country’s economy to the extent that some people and parents losing massively in their businesses and also some losing their job entirely, he added that maybe some students have probably not got access to the Student Loan Trust or their fees haven’t been disbursed from their scholarship schemes and many other reasons he added. Again he pleaded that the action is very emotionally disheartening and also psychologically distractive as their still students.

He then listed four things the SRC Should consider as they negotiate on the behalf of students;

  • Students cannot be made to defer an Academic year on the grounds of financial challenges
  • The school has a history of allowing students to write exams and making access to results impossible without fee payment.
  • Students are ready to sign undertakings to commit themselves to payment of before results
  • The SRC should be ready to serve as a guarantor for every student.
