Nigeria’s Main Airline Has Been Affected By The Covid-19 Crisis.

Faced with “the catastrophic impact on its operations and financial health,” Air Peace ‘s management said in a statement that it had to take “a difficult but legitimate decision” to fire some of its pilots and slash “all staff wages.” Air peace employs nearly 3,000 workers.

Most airlines around the world have had to take similar steps for their survival, as the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have seriously impacted air traffic.

In an effort to curb the pandemic, Nigeria has recently eased restrictive measures but the improvement in economic activity remains limited.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country with 200 million inhabitants, has had more than 44,000 cases of coronavirus since the first outbreak in February, including 896 deaths, according to the most recent official figures.
