#OnlineExamsMatter; UCC continuing students on a U-turn, petitions management for online Assessment

In the wake of increasing numbers of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ghana, a lot has been on the table of the government, business executives, opinion leaders, and the general public.

It appears that the unrelenting efforts of world leaders to bring down the lethal Covid-19 are proving to be futile. It is taking away the lives of our significant others, compatriots, loved ones, and key players in the health sector.

It is, however, rumored that as soon as academic activities for tertiary schools who couldn’t complete their academic work before schools were closed down in March, resumes, management of the University of Cape Coast might stick to the traditional way of assessing students, relegating the imperative online assessments to the rare.

In light of that, well-intentioned students of UCC have already registered their displeasure by suggesting that the exams be taken online rather. Student advocates are therefore pleading with the SRC President, Zaki Abdul-Hamid to communicate their plights to the university management. This comes in the wake of the completion of the academic year by various tertiary institutions using virtual means.

“No one should be drawn by the facade that we are eating our own words after vehemently protesting against online exams some time ago but since necessity is the mother of invention, we have come to the realization that it is way too safe online than on-campus”, a student laments.

A sizable number of the students of the university community have bought into the idea and are prepared to write exams online.

After weeks of attempts to trend #OnlineExamsMatter on social media, concerned students of the university have been left to the fate of an unknown future.

Students are currently patiently waiting for an official communique from the SRC to inform them about the way forward.
