On the Friday, the 14th of February, the medical student’s association of the university of health and Allied Sciences visited St.George’s Anglican School,unit for special needs. This visit was to launch “THE AUTISM PROJECT “by the association’s project committee.
The Autism project aims at creating awareness within the Ho community about the unique challenges faced by children with the autism spectrum disorder and hopes to support them yo develop socially through recreational and educational activities and opportunities.
This project ,as said by the committee chair in the person of Papa Kwesi Opare,is a rather long term one with other’s arms like organizing workshops periodically for parents of kids with autism to educate them on how optimally care for these kids with regards to their diet, hygiene, food and developmental process,as well as interacting and learning with children and their teachers.
The launch consisted of various activities with the pupils and the special needs teachers like Madam Mawusi Awuma present. There was singing and dancing ,cake cutting, various interactions with kids as well as Donation of tables,chairs ,teaching and learning materials and some toys to facilitate learning in the school.
The program ended with Edward Matsi. The Regional manager of Anglican Schools ,Volta and Oti region addressing those presents and expressing deep appreciation to the association for their kind gesture and for going out of their ways to put a smile on the faces of those children
